Have you heard of tallow? This powerhouse ingredient is not only a staple in cooking but also a game-changer in skincare. Tallow is rich in antioxidants & anti-inflammatory benefits and mimics the fatty acids, vitamins, micronutrients & minerals found in your own skin. Let's dive into the world of ranch-raised, nutrient-rich, and anti-microbial tallow, and discover why it's gaining popularity in both the culinary and beauty industries.
What Makes Tallow Stand Out?
Tallow is a rendered form of beef or mutton fat, known for its high concentration of nutrients similar to those found in our own skin. This makes it an exceptional ingredient for skincare products, as it can nourish and hydrate the skin effectively.
The Benefits of Tallow in Skincare
Due to its similarity to human skin lipids, tallow is easily absorbed and can help restore the skin's natural moisture barrier. It is rich in vitamins A, D, E, and K, as well as antioxidants, making it a potent anti-aging ingredient. Additionally, tallow has natural anti-microbial properties, which can help combat acne-causing bacteria and soothe inflammation.
Tallow in Cooking
Aside from its skincare benefits, tallow is also a popular choice for cooking. With a high smoke point and a rich, savory flavor, tallow is ideal for frying, roasting, and sautéing. It is a great alternative to vegetable oils and can add depth and richness to dishes.
Environmental and Ethical Considerations
Ranch-raised tallow is often sourced from your local rancher, which are raised in a more sustainable and ethical manner compared to factory-farmed animals. By choosing products made with ranch-raised tallow, consumers can support environmentally friendly practices and animal welfare.
How to Incorporate Tallow into Your Routine
Whether you're looking to upgrade your skincare routine or experiment with new cooking techniques, tallow can be a versatile addition to your daily regimen. Look for skincare products that contain tallow or try rendering your own tallow at home for cooking purposes.
With its nutrient-rich composition, anti-microbial properties, and versatility in both cooking and skincare, tallow is truly a powerhouse ingredient worth exploring. Consider incorporating Hilltop tallow-based products into your routine to experience the benefits firsthand!
How to Render
For COOKING - render & strain 1-2 times as recommended.
For SKIN CARE - render & strain 3+ times, then whip with an immersion blender!
Store in a glass jar
At Hilltop we use a slow cooker to render our suet. It takes a little longer but uses lower heat to keep the suet from overheating. Simmer until the suet is liquified & separated from the meaty parts, strain through a mesh. We use a cheese cloth at Hilltop. Let the suet cool. FOR SKIN CARE - We add jojoba oil & our favorite essential oils once cooled. Then whip with beaters & add to jars!
